LONDON, July 5 (UPI) -- A former reporter for the Daily Mirror was arrested Wednesday in connection with a London police investigation into payoffs to public employees.
Greig Box Turnbull, 37, was the first journalist arrested in Operation Elveden who does not work for Rupert Murdoch's media empire, The Daily Telegraph reported. Previous arrests have involved two News International tabloids, the now-closed News of the World and The Sun.
The potential charges against Turnbull involve suspicion of corruption, conspiracy to commit bribery and conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office.
A prison officer and a woman were also arrested.
Turnbull left the Mirror in March and now works as a press officer for the Westminster City Council. Neither his current nor former employer would comment on the arrest, the Telegraph said.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the arrest did not involve any attempt to get reporters to reveal sources for information obtained honestly.
Operation Elveden grew out of the investigation into phone hacking by News of the World employees.
