BANGKOK, July 3 (UPI) -- Ten people were killed and 17 injured Tuesday when a bus crashed into an electric pole in Thailand, officials said.

The Transport Co. Ltd. bus carrying 24 passengers, including foreign tourists, left Bangkok late Monday for Phangan Island in the southern province of Surat Thani, MCOT reported.

The driver lost control of the vehicle early Tuesday and crashed into an electric pole in Kanchanadit district. He was among those who died in the accident.

Police say it appears the front right tire burst, causing the driver to hit the electric pole at full speed.
