MONTREAL, July 2 (UPI) -- Montreal police were trying to determine Sunday whether what appeared to be human remains found in a park were related to the Lin Jun dismemberment slaying.
Montreal police Constable Anie Lemieux told The (Montreal) Gazette it was too early in the investigation to say whether the items found in Angrignon Park have anything to do with the Lin case.
"We're waiting on lab results to determine whether what we found are human remains," Lemieux said.
Luka Rocca Magnotta, 29, is accused of killing and dismembering the 33-year-old Concordia student. Lin's torso was found in a briefcase behind Magnotta's apartment May 29 and one of his feet was discovered in a package mailed to Conservative Party headquarters in Ottawa. The Liberal Party received a package containing a hand. The following week, other limbs belonging to Lin were found in packages sent to two Vancouver-area elementary schools.
Police had not yet located Lin's head and several other body parts.
Magnotta was arrested in an Internet cafe in Berlin on June 4 and extradited back to Canada two weeks later to face first-degree murder and other charges.
