VAISHALI, India, July 2 (UPI) -- Indian police said they are investigating a 13-year-old girl who allegedly poisoned her father and brother to death for opposing her fling with a neighbor.

The girl, whose name was not reported, allegedly laced vegetables with poison provided to her by her boyfriend, Vijay, and served them for dinner, the Deccan Herald reported Sunday.

Her father, Shankar Mahto, 40, and brother, Vikas, 12, began vomiting and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

"The girl has confessed to her crime. She has been arrested. After being produced in the court, she has been sent to remand home since she is a minor," said Vaishali Superintendent of Police UK Sinha.

The girl's mother, Sunita Devi, had avoided eating the meal because she was not feeling well.

"I was ill. So I avoided meal, hoping that if I feel better I will have it the next day," Sunita said.
"That night too she went to meet the boy. I wanted to teach her a lesson. But perhaps she got an inkling of what was about to come. She hatched a plot with Vijay to eliminate the entire family," Sunita told police.

Sinha said the family opposed the couple's relationship because they were too young and the boy belonged to a different caste, the Herald said.
