Drone kills suspected Pakistani militants

DRE NISHTER, Pakistan, July 1 (UPI) -- An unmanned U.S. drone fired missiles at a house in a Pakistani tribal region Sunday, killing at least eight suspected militants, security officials said.

The drone struck the house situated in Dre Nishter village near the border with Afghanistan, Afghanistan's Khaama Press reported.

"Two missiles were fired on a house. Eight militants were killed," said a local intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The attack killed fighters suspected to be loyal to militant commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur. Local residents say Bahadur has a working relationship with the Pakistani army to avoid attacking security forces while focusing on U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported.

Bahadur's group last week said it would act against any group providing polio vaccinations in the area.
