Mudslide buries Ugandan villages

BUDUDA, Uganda, June 25 (UPI) -- At least 18 people were missing and nine seriously injured after a mudslide buried parts of two villages in Uganda, officials there said Monday.

The Uganda Red Cross said 15 houses in the villages of Namaga and Bunakasala were covered with mud, NTV Uganda reported. The villages are located in Bududa district.

Authorities warned the villages several weeks ago they were at risk after cracks developed in the soil on a hillside and urged residents to move, NTV reported.

Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Musa Ecweru planned to travel to Bududa for a first-hand look at the disaster.
