ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 25 (UPI) -- Taliban militants from Afghanistan attacked three Pakistani military posts, killing at least eight soldiers, officials said. Fifteen attackers also died.
Col. Wasim Ahmed said more than100 Taliban were involved in the attack in the Upper Dir district in northwestern Pakistan Sunday, CNN reported.
Fifteen Taliban were killed in firefights that came after the attacks, Ahmed said.
Pakistani Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told CNN the Afghan Taliban carrying out the attacks were assisted by Pakistani Taliban in reconnoitering and information-gathering.
The attacks were the latest cross-border assaults from regions in eastern Afghanistan where U.S. troops began pulling out last year, CNN said.
Afghan and Pakistani official have long accused each other of not doing enough to secure the border.
