ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 20 (UPI) -- A key al-Qaida leader has been arrested in Pakistan near the country's border with Iran, military officials said Wednesday.

Security forces weren't clear about the particulars of the arrest of French national Naamen Maziche, who was in charge of some of al-Qaida's international operations, CNN reported.

Officials said Maziche is a close aide of al-Qaida leader Younis al-Mauretani. Pakistani intelligence officials arrested Mauretani and three aides in September 2011, alleging he intended to attack targets in the United States, Europe and Australia.
