Report: Dismember suspect back in Canada

MONTREAL, June 18 (UPI) -- The man suspected of killing and cutting up a Montreal college student returned to Canada Monday from Germany where he was arrested, officials said.

Luka Rocco Magnotta was restrained and monitored by a dozen Montreal police officers during his flight on a military plane, federal sources told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

The plane landed shortly before 7 p.m. at Mirabel Airport, where it was met by emergency vehicles and police cars with flashing lights, and a phalanx of armed officers, the CBC said.

The 29-year-old suspect, wearing dark pants, a green shirt and white shoes, left the aircraft about 10 minutes later and was taken away in an unmarked van to an undisclosed detention center, the CBC said. He is to be arraigned Tuesday.

Magnotta, arrested at a Berlin cybercafe June 4, is charged in the slaying of Concordia University student Jun Lin, 33, a Chinese citizen who was a permanent resident of Canada. Magnotta allegedly sent packages containing Jun Lin's body parts to schools and the offices of political parties in Canada.

Jun's torso was found in a suitcase outside a Montreal apartment building.

The CBC said Jun's parents arrived in Canada earlier and posted an open letter on a Chinese-language Web site thanking Canadians for their support during the ordeal.
