DAMASCUS, Syria, June 10 (UPI) -- Kuwaiti "jihadists" have crossed the Turkish border into Syria to help members of the Free Syrian Army topple President Bashar Assad's regime, relatives said.

Relatives of fighters told the Kuwaiti al-Qabas newspaper Sunday that rebels have welcomed the Kuwaitis along with fighters from Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, who have entered Syria to assist bringing down Assad's regime.

Some of the Kuwaitis found to be under the age of 18 were returned home. On arriving in Syria, the Kuwaitis were given Syrian identification cards, arms and dispatched to different parts of the country. Large amounts of weapons have been stockpiled on the Turkish-Syria border, the newspaper said.

Rebel forces are increasing their control of areas and have stepped up attacks against Syrian government troops, the Kuwaiti daily said.

The Washington Post reported Saturday that there has been increased international effort to aid the Free Syria Army.
