Philip was diagnosed with a bladder infection Monday at Windsor Castle and taken to the hospital by ambulance. He had been at his wife's side for the first two days of the four-day Diamond Jubilee weekend, but Elizabeth soldiered on without him while he watched events like the Monday night Buckingham Palace concert and her balcony appearance Tuesday on television.
The prince, who also has the title Duke of Edinburgh, turns 91 Sunday. He has remained active although he announced when he turned 90 that he was cutting down on his public schedule.
Buckingham Palace said Wednesday he was doing well, The Guardian reported.
"The duke's condition has improved considerably since coming into hospital on Monday," the statement said. "The treatment of his infection continues with antibiotics. He is likely to remain in hospital over the next few days. He is in good spirits."
