Vancouver body parts en route to Montreal

MONTREAL, June 6 (UPI) -- A human hand and foot mailed to two Vancouver schools were being shipped to Montreal Wednesday as possible evidence in a Chinese student's grotesque murder.

The packages arrived at the schools Tuesday afternoon and were determined to be a right hand and right foot.

They had been mailed from Montreal, where two other boxes containing a left hand and foot were mailed to two federal political parties in late May, CTV News reported.

Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere told reporters he couldn't reveal why his force requested the parts from Vancouver.

Elsewhere in Montreal Wednesday morning, police received a call that a human foot had been found on the street, but it was determined to be either plastic or rubber, the National Post reported.

The center of the investigation is Luka Rocco Magnotta, a 29-year-old self-described gay porn actor and model, who was arrested and jailed in Berlin Monday.

Police allege he videotaped the murder, dismemberment and cannibalizing of 33-year-old acquaintance Jun Lin, a Chinese student, at Magnotta's apartment. The video, posted online around May 26, has been removed.

The victim's headless torso was found in a suitcase beside a trash heap on the street. The parts mailed to Ottawa were confirmed to be his, but his head and limbs haven't been recovered.

Canadian and German authorities are working to reach an extradition agreement and Magnotta told a judge Tuesday he wouldn't fight it.
