Canada body-parts murder victim identified

MONTREAL, June 1 (UPI) -- Police in Montreal Friday identified a man who was killed and dismembered as a Chinese university student and said the suspect in the case may be in France.

Canadian forensic experts determined a hand, foot and torso were those of 33-year-old Jun Lin, who had been missing since May 24, the QMI Agency reported.

He was a student at Concordia University and had been acquainted with Luka Magnotta, the prime suspect in his death. Magnotta has an international warrant out for his arrest on homicide and committing an indignity to a body, police said.

Investigators said Magnotta's apartment was an obvious crime scene and determined the killing occurred last week. It wasn't discovered until Tuesday when two mail parcels arrived in Ottawa, one containing a foot and the other a hand.

The same day, a headless and limbless torso was found in a suitcase on a curb in Montreal beside trash bags.

Magnotta, 29, is a former gay porn actor who has an extensive history of self-promotion on the Internet, which has helped investigators.

Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere said it's thought Magnotta fled to France under an assumed name. His known aliases are Eric Newman and Vladimir Romanov.
