CARACAS, Venezuela, May 31 (UPI) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has an aggressive cancer and only has a few months left to live, HDNet reported.

A source close to Chavez and knowledgeable about his medical condition said the metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma has "entered the end stage," and that the president isn't expected to "live more than a couple of months at most," HDNet's "Dan Rather Report" reported Wednesday.

Chavez is running for re-election, but several sources said they doubt he will live to see the results.

Voting begins Oct. 7.

Chavez has been treated three times in Cuba for cancer, but the type of cancer wasn't revealed.
