SANAA, Yemen, May 27 (UPI) -- U.N. special envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar left Sanaa Sunday after a weeklong visit aimed at mending warring political factions' differences, officials said.

Sent to overview the transitional period from old regime to new and Yemen's military restructuring, Benomar met with President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi and other officials to assess the situation.

Benomar is set to deliver his report on Yemen before the U.N. Security Council Tuesday.

Mareb Press said Saturday Benomar failed to convince deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh to end his meddling and encourage his loyalists to obey presidential decrees ordering the dismissals of several pivotal figures of the former regime.

Akhbar Alyom newspaper said Saturday Benomar briefed Hadi on a set of sanctions by the Security Council for all individuals or groups hindering Yemen's transitional period -- a freeze of assets and loss of immunity.
