Sudan files complaint against Juba

KHARTOUM, Sudan, May 27 (UPI) -- Sudan's permanent U.N. representative filed a complaint Saturday against South Sudan for alleged infringement on its sovereignty, officials said.

Khartoum accuses South Sudan of carrying out attacks in its territories -- Dharfur and South Kordofan -- and financially supporting rebel groups.

South Sudan retaliated Saturday by accusing Khartoum of conducting air attacks and arming militias in Unity and Bahr El-Ghazal states.

Despite this month's U.N. Security Council Resolution 2046, which includes an African Union road map aimed at putting belligerency to rest through diplomacy, both nations have been accusing one another of violations.

"The past eight days have seen blatant violations and cross-border attacks by the South Sudanese forces," the Sudan Tribune Saturday quoted Daffa-Alla Elhag Ali Osman, Sudan's ambassador to the United Nations, as saying. "These attacks represent a clear and repeated breach of Resolution 2046."

Osman called on the Security Council "to take the necessary actions to stop the serious violations of the U.N. resolution."
