May 26, 2012 at 11:21 AM

SAINT-SAUD-LACOUSSIERE, France, May 26 (UPI) -- Three Dutch France residents were injured when a hot air balloon they were riding in collided with an electric cable, officials said.

The three injured, two women and one man who are all Dutch citizens, set out in the balloon around 8 p.m. Friday from the village Saint-Saud-Lacoussiere, where they lived, Radio France Internationale reported.

About 20 minutes after they left the ground, the balloon collided with an electric cable, setting the balloon on fire.

The man, 61, and one of the women, 55, jumped from the balloon and fell about 50 feet to the ground. The remaining woman, 60, stayed in the balloon and tried to turn the gas off, sending it crashing to the ground.

The man, who suffered more serious injuries, was flown to a hospital in Bordeaux, while the two women, who only suffered slight injuries, were taken to a nearby hospital, the report said.
