SANAA, Yemen, May 25 (UPI) -- The Yemeni military led assaults that killed 36 members of al-Qaida in the southern province of Abyan, sources told the Yemen Post.

The attacks, starting Thursday, were in al-Qaida strongholds in Jaar and Zinjibar, the report said.

The military was relentlessly attacking the al-Qaida positions, it said.

The Post said U.S drones and tribal fighters supported the military's attacks.
