Yemen PM heads for Saudi Arabia

SANAA, Yemen, May 22 (UPI) -- Yemeni Prime Minister Mohamed Salem Basendwa and his delegation traveled to Saudi Arabia Tuesday ahead of the Friends of Yemen conference.

The Friends of Yemen conference, set for Wednesday in Riyadh, is aimed at finding solutions to the country's multifaceted crises through international political and financial cooperation.

Basendwa was met by Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz, the governor of Riyadh, Yemeni Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mohammed Ali Mohsen Elahwal, Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Ali bin Mohammed Al-Hamdan and a number of members of the Yemeni Embassy in Riyadh, al-Masdar Online reported.

U.N. special envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar will attend the conference before heading back to Sanaa where he will oversee the final stages of the government transition, Mareb Press said.
