Saudi police doubt rape allegations

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, May 17 (UPI) -- Saudi police in Jeddah said they are investigating rape allegations made by an Indian nurse working at a private hospital.

The nurse told the Saudi Gazette she was kidnapped as she walked outside the hospital. Her attacker allegedly sprayed her with a drug that made her lose consciousness, then took her to an undisclosed location to rape her.

"Police investigators began to doubt her story after she said she was kidnapped at 9 p.m., a time when the section of Palestine Street is bustling with traffic," said police spokesman Brig. Mesfer al-Juaid, adding the nurse could not provide any details about the rapist, his vehicle or the vehicle's license plate number.
