SANAA, Yemen, May 15 (UPI) -- Police officers in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, say a 13 year-old girl was fatally beaten after she was gang raped by seven men.
The young orphan was kidnapped early Wednesday while going to buy bread a local bakery by a group of drunken men that allegedly included Ali Abdel-Kareem Hamid, the son of a powerful tribal leader, Bikyamasr reported Tuesday.
Residents expressed their outrage at the Sheikh's attempts to buy his son a way out of legal proceedings by offering to pay the girl's father, her only relative, for damages, and to marry the victim post mortem.
Facing mounting pressure as his son is the primary suspect of the rape investigation, the Sheikh reportedly warned he would kill anyone who would dare approach his son.
