MILAN, Italy, May 14 (UPI) -- Police said Monday robbers nabbed some $12.78 million worth of antique jewelry from Rosa Maria Buccallati of the Milan jewelry family.

Buccallati, 52, said her car was rear-ended on her way back from a trade show Sunday. ANSA reported thieves reached into the car and snatched the suitcase containing the pieces from the passenger seat.

Buccallati was not injured. Police said they were investigating the incident.

The Buccallati family has been known since 1919 for antique silver jewelry.
