JAKARTA, May 13 (UPI) -- The flight recorder and engines of a Russian plane that crashed Wednesday were found Sunday in a mountainous region of Indonesia, military officials said.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 crashed during a demonstration flight in rugged terrain 35 miles from Jakarta, killing all 45 people aboard.
A representative of the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency told reporters Sunday one of the flight data recorders had been found, Russia's Itar-Tass news agency said.
Indonesian Special Troops Maj. S. Tambunan told Indonesia's Web portal Detik.com some of the debris showed little damage.
"The running gear, the left-side and the right-side engines are undamaged, the fuselage is possibly trapped under 10 cubic meters (more than 13 cubic yards) of land slides," Tambunan said.
The cause of the crash soon after takeoff wasn't immediately known, although there was speculation about poor weather and pilot error, the RIA Novosti news agency said.
Flight regulations in the area call for a minimum altitude of 11,000 feet, although the pilot reportedly was flying at 10,000 feet before requesting permission to descend to 6,000 feet.
That was the last communication with air traffic controllers, the reports said.
