Three charged in organ buying scheme

HYDERABAD, India, May 8 (UPI) -- A human organ-selling racket has been broken up in India with the arrest of two men and a doctor in the southeastern city of Hyderabad, police said.

The two are accused of working with Dr. Ramesh Chada to buy kidneys from poor people for $2,000 and then sell them to patients in need of a transplant for as much as $37,600, Bikyamasr.com reported Tuesday.

All three are charged with violating human organ transplant laws.

The scheme was discovered after a donor complained to police that he had been promised $9,411 for his kidney but got only $2,000.

Human organ transplant rackets are widespread in India where poor people from villages are lured into donating their organs.
