MAKHACHKALA, Russia, May 6 (UPI) -- Another bomb blast rattled the Russian republic of Dagestan Sunday, sending one person to the hospital, government officials said.

The motorist was hospitalized when a bomb apparently planted in his car went off in the capital city of Makhachkala just three days after a pair of bombs exploded near a police station.

Dagestan has been in the grips of an Islamic insurgency that has included attacks on civilians and law enforcement officers throughout the North Caucasus.

The Interior Ministry said it had not yet determined the identity of the injured driver.

Thursday night's twin explosions on the outskirts of the city caused 13 deaths and more than 100 injuries, Russia's RIA Novosti news service said. The first blast was triggered by a suicide bomber and the second was apparently timed to occur after rescue crews arrived on the scene.
