ABBASSIYA, Egypt, May 6 (UPI) -- Egyptian military forces released 14 women Sunday who were detained at a sit-in, lawyers say.

The women were arrested Friday inside the al-Nour mosque, close to the ministry of defense building in Abbassiya, Bikyamasr.com reported.

Military prosecutors ordered them to be held for 15 days pending investigation. However, they were released Sunday, defense lawyers say.

The 14 women arrested were part of around 300 people who were arrested during protests Friday.

As many as 18 journalists were assaulted as they were arrested Friday, said the Committee to Protect Journalists.

"We call on the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to identify the attackers and bring them to justice immediately, as well as to release journalists in custody," Mohamed Abudl Dayem, CPJ's MENA program coordinator, said in a statement on Friday.

All but two journalists have been released.
