Dad who drowned sons gets death penalty

THISSUR, India, May 3 (UPI) -- An elephant participating in a festival in Thissur, India, turned hostile, injuring nearly 24 people, police say.
The elephant, Kalidasan, who was participating in the This Pooram temple festival, ran amok Wednesday. When handlers tried to tame Kalidasan, the animal panicked, running in different directions and chasing away festival attendees, police say.
After 15 minutes, the animal was finally under control, although by that time, close to two-dozen people had been injured.
Inspector General of Police S. Gopinath told the Indo-Asian news agency none of those injured are in serious condition.
