The powerful blast occurred on a road in Quetta, near the Afghanistan border, and the dead included personnel from the Frontier Corps, a federally controlled force led by the Pakistan army, Dawn reported.
The explosion, which occurred about 2:15 p.m., shook several buildings in Quetta, the provincial capital of the Balochistan Province.
A Frontier Corps convoy was suspected as the intended target and one FC vehicle was destroyed while four others were damaged and four rickshaws caught fire.
Rescue workers took those injured to a hospital.
