Afghanistan clears poppy fields

PANJAWI, Afghanistan, May 1 (UPI) -- Anti-narcotic officials say roughly 444 acres of poppies were cleared in the Panjawi, Zheri and Maiwand districts of Afghanistan's Kandahar province.

The head of Kandahar's anti-narcotics authority told Bakhtar News about 165 acres were cleared from Panjawi, about 81 from Maiwand and about 197 from Zheri.

Cleanup is ongoing throughout Kandahar.
