Van, bus crashes kill 18 in China

WUHAN, China, April 29 (UPI) -- A minivan and a bus plunged off cliffs in China Saturday, killing a total of 18 people, authorities said.

In one accident, police said seven people died and one survived when a minivan went off a cliff and landed in the Yangtze River in Hubei province in central China about 9 p.m., Xinhua News Agency reported.

In the second accident, a bus left a road in southwestern China's Yunnan province about 5 p.m. and went off a cliff. Besides the 11 who died, six others were hospitalized in serious condition, Xinhua said.

The causes of the mishaps were being investigated.
