Grenade blast hits Kenyan church

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 29 (UPI) -- At least one person was killed Sunday when a hand grenade went off inside a church in Kenya, police said.

The blast occurred in the Ngara district of Nairobi and sent at least 11 people to Kenya National Hospital, including one in critical condition, officials at the hospital told Capital FM.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility; however, authorities have linked similar attacks in Kenya on al-Shabaab, an al-Qaida-affiliated militant group operating out of Somalia.

Officials in Kenya were already on alert Sunday after the U.S. Embassy issued a warning last week that terrorists were poised to strike a hotel or government building in Nairobi, the BBC said.
