DAMASCUS, Syria, April 28 (UPI) -- The Syrian cease-fire frayed even more Saturday when the government said "terrorists" launched an amphibious attack on a military installation.

The nighttime clash at Lattakia about 20 miles south of the Turkish border on the Mediterranean coast left people dead on both sides, the Syrian Arab News Agency said. SANA, which serves as a mouthpiece for the government, called the attackers "an armed terrorist group."

The attack was made in inflatable boats, SANA said. Officials said the number of attackers killed was uncertain because the attack was made under cover of darkness but said they were driven off.

The cease-fire brokered two weeks ago by the United Nations appears to have been broken numerous times by both sides.

Lebanon seized a ship Friday carrying weapons to the rebels, SANA said. The cargo reportedly included heavy machine guns and artillery.

Tele Liban, a Lebanese television channel, reported the ship was owned by a Syrian and had come from Tripoli, Libya, by way of Alexandria in Egypt, SANA said.
