South Korea plans for flood of tourists

SEOUL, April 27 (UPI) -- South Korea created a special task force to deal with an expected influx of Chinese and Japanese tourists in the coming week, officials say.

An estimated 320,000-340,000 tourists from China and Japan are expected to visit South Korea before May 5 for China's Labor Day holidays and Golden Week in Japan, Yonhap news agency reported.

Officials from the Culture Ministry, Seoul, Busan and the tourism industry created what they call an "integrated situation team" to improve services for tourists during that time.

The task force will monitor accommodations, tourist guides, food and shopping to better resolve tourists' complaints and inconveniences, the report said.

An official from the Culture Ministry said the ministry hopes to boost the image of Korean tourism utilizing the task force and added that the team will crack down on market vendors selling goods at excessively high prices, unqualified tour guides and illegal operation of taxis.
