Mounties hold 4 for assault, kidnapping

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia, April 18 (UPI) -- Four men were being held in central British Columbia Wednesday, charged by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police with abducting and beating a man for days.

Investigator said the incident began last week in a rural area east of Prince George in which an unidentified man was kidnapped, held in a house and repeatedly beaten, The (Vancouver) Province reported.

The alleged victim stumbled into a community center Sunday night, bloodied and bruised and asking for help. He told the people in the hall he had been held for days, but it wasn't clear if he escaped or was released.

He was hospitalized with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said.

The Mounties arrested two men hours later and found marijuana and weapons. Tuesday night, two brothers, 24 and 22, turned themselves in, police said.

One of the brothers is known by investigators to have gang affiliations and was supposed to have been deported to South Africa in 2011, but that didn't happen, the CBC said.
