Witnesses said the man, described as being of Moroccan origin, was armed with a Colt .45. He yelled as he threatened a passenger.

"I am Mohamed Merah and I am going to kill you," he reportedly shouted.

Merah died in March in a shootout with French police. He allegedly engaged in a killing spree, gunning down three French soldiers and then an adult and three children at a Jewish school in the Toulouse region.

Police said the man was carrying two rounds of ammunition but the gun appeared to be unloaded at the time he brandished it. Officers said his demeanor was that of someone "not being in full possession of his mental faculties."

The man had a history of arrests.
