Medvedev's income stable, Putin's declines

MOSCOW, April 12 (UPI) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's 2011 income remained stable while Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's declined, income declarations said Thursday.

Medvedev earned almost $112,000, about the same as in 2010, RIA Novosti reported.

Putin's income fell to about $122,000 last year from about $170,000 in 2010.

Medvedev and his wife, Svetlana, acquired no new property in 2011. They own a 1,207-square-foot apartment and a one-car parking spot in a garage cooperative. Medvedev rents an estimated 15,420-square-foot lot and owns two vintage cars, a 1948 GAZ-20 Victory (Pobeda) and a 1962 GAZ-21.

Putin, who is to become president May 7, has a 504-square-foot apartment, a roughly 4,921-square-foot plot of land, a garage, three cars and a Skif trailer he inherited from his father.

Top officials in Russia have been required to declare their incomes since 2008 as part of an anti-corruption effort.

The disclosure law should be expanded, Putin has said, to include heads of state companies, universities and state medical establishments.
