KOSOVKA MITOROVICA, Kosovo, April 10 (UPI) -- Citizens of the northern Kosovo town of Kosovka Mitorovica gathered to prevent Kosovo police from setting up guard posts, witnesses said.

An ethnic Albanian man was killed and his two children injured Sunday by explosives planted at his window in one of the residential buildings of the Tri Solitera neighborhood, the Beta news agency said. Kosovo Police arrived Monday with the goal of setting up three guard stations, one at each building.

Citizens turned over one guard box and broke its windows, prompting the police to ship the remaining two back to southern Kosovka Mitorovica.

In the racially segregated city, divided by the Ibar River, hundreds of Serbs gathered in the north while Albanians gathered in the south, causing what Beta news agency called a tense situation. Around 2 p.m. local time, crowds dispersed without incident.
