Passengers who got off the truck along the route said the vehicle was having mechanical problems. The brakes stopped working and the truck overturned in Morne Tapion, the news Web site reported.

Patients were taken to the nearby Notre-Dame of Petit-Goave, though a lack of supplies meant many were transferred to larger hospitals by the Red Cross, Haitilibre.com said.
