Pilot dies in Tatarstan helicopter crash

April 6, 2012 at 11:41 AM

YAMASH, Russia, April 6 (UPI) -- A helicopter crashed in Russia's Republic of Tatarstan Friday, killing the pilot, officials said.

"At 12:47, information came in from a local resident that the helicopter had been found near Yamash village, Almetyevsky Region," a local law enforcement official said.

The helicopter, a Bell 407, was owned by Ak Bars Aero, the official flight operator of the Tatarstan government, RIA Novosti reported.

The crash was the second involving a Bell 407 in Russia in the past two months. Another pilot died near Nizhny Novgorod in March after his helicopter crashed into the Volga River.
