U.S. plans high-level talks with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, April 4 (UPI) -- A full range of issues is on the agenda when senior U.S. diplomat Thomas Nides meets with Pakistan's foreign minister in Islamabad, the State Department said.

Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the Wednesday meeting is part of a concerted effort "to build on our recent high-level engagement with the Pakistani government," Dawn News reported.

Nides and Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar are expected to discuss a number of controversial political and security measures including the 2011 NATO airstrikes that killed as many as 24 Pakistani soldiers at the Salala check post.

U.S. aid to Pakistan and Coalition Support Fund reimbursements will also be discussed.

Nides' trip is the second high-profile visit of a U.S. official to Islamabad since the incident.

Earlier, Gen. James Mattis, head of United States Central Command, and the chief of the International Security Assistant Force, Gen. John Allen, held meetings with military leaders in Rawalpindi.
