Poisoned sausages found in Swedish woods

DALARNA, Sweden, March 27 (UPI) -- Poisoned sausages found in the wilderness surrounding Dalarna, Sweden, may have been placed there to kill wolves, police said.

Ten spicy sausages laced with a white powder that police say appears to be cyanide were found Friday. The Dalarna Tidning newspaper said this is the sixth time poisoned meat has been found in the woods since 2004.

"Someone has most likely laid them out to poison wolves," officer Sven-Ake Petters told the newspaper. Police said they're concerned because the tainted meat poses a threat to local children.

Samples of the sausages were sent in for forensic examination. The Local reported no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the contaminated sausages.
