VERNON, British Columbia, March 17 (UPI) -- A 37-year-old Canadian teacher is in the midst of a second trial on charges she had a two-year sexual relationship with a student that started when he was 12.
Deborah Ashton, a former teacher in Vernon, British Columbia, faces five counts arising from the alleged affair authorities say started in 2002. A first trial ended in a hung jury last year.
A friend of the alleged victim testified Friday he saw Ashton and the seventh-grade student "moving around" together in a sleeping bag on a bunk bed at a summer camp, cuddling together while watching television at his friend's house and wrestling in the grass while on a basketball trip.
The witness also testified he saw Ashton and the boy wrestling in the grass while on a basketball trip and cuddling together while watching TV at his friend's house.
Ashton's ex-husband is expected to return to the stand next Friday when the trial resumes, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
