Town edgy as 'earthquake swarm' hits

MCADAM, New Brunswick, March 15 (UPI) -- Small earthquakes could continue to rattle a village in southwestern New Brunswick for days or weeks, Natural Resources Canada told residents.

Since Saturday, the town of McAdam has experienced five quakes, the strongest a magnitude 2.4, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Seismologist John Adams told the CBC there's no way to predict the small quakes or determine how long they'll continue.

"Certainly we are seeing what we are calling an earthquake swarm," he said. "They are unpredictable. Of course you don't know when the next one is going to happen."

No damage has been reported, apart from pictures falling off walls, the report said.

Resident Gloria Nason told the broadcaster the largest of the five quakes were "just like great big bangs, like an explosion, very eerie, very scary."
