Roadside bomb kills eight in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, March 14 (UPI) -- A roadside bomb in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province claimed the lives of at least eight civilians, a government spokesman said Wednesday.

Daud Ahmadi of the provincial governor's office told Khaama Press that the deaths occurred at a roundabout when a civilian vehicle struck a bomb that had apparently been planted by anti-government militants.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing but Taliban militants frequently use improvised explosive devices and roadside bombs to target Afghan and coalition forces.
