Calls to oust Israel ambassador from Egypt

CAIRO, March 13 (UPI) -- Egyptian parliamentarians called for the ouster of Israeli Ambassador Yaakov Amitai and the recall of Egypt's ambassador to Tel Aviv due to violence in Gaza.

Members attending the evening session of the People's Assembly Monday unanimously voted on a statement submitted by the Committee on Arab Affairs, which also called for a halt gas to exports to Israel to protest attacks on Gaza triggered by rocket attacks on southern Israel, al-Masry al-Youm said.

"Egypt after the revolution will never be a friend of the Zionist entity, the first enemy of Egypt and the Arab nation," a statement issued by the assembly said. The committee also demanded the Egyptian government review its agreements with the "enemy" Israel, the paper said.

The assembly called for an Arab boycott of the "Zionist entity" and international companies that deal with Israel, saying such steps support "the choice of resistance," described as a strategic option to liberate the occupied territories, the paper said.

Islamists dominate the People's Assembly with the Muslim Brotherhood in control of nearly half of the seats, Ynetnews.com said.
