KINGSTON, Jamaica, March 6 (UPI) -- A gun battle between police and suspected criminals resulted in the death of six people in the Jamaican capital of Kingston, authorities said.

The six dead include a 13-year-old girl and an elderly man, the Gleaner of Kingston, Jamaica, reported Tuesday.

Jamaican Constabulary Force Communications Director Karl Angell said police believe three of the five males who were killed were wanted for various crimes.

"The other three persons, including the lone female, are believed to have been killed during the course of the gun battle," Angell said.

Residents of the area where the gun fight took place have accused police of murder.
