Crippled ship's arrival to port delayed

ROME, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Strong currents slowed the towing of the crippled Costa Allegra cruise ship, delaying its arrival at the Seychelles Islands until Thursday, officials said

The Italian coast guard earlier said it thought the vessel would arrive Wednesday afternoon but stronger currents slowed the operation, ANSA reported.

An engine room fire on Monday left the liner without propulsion, CNN said.

The liner, which was part of the same line as the Costa Concordia wrecked off Italy's coast, is under a blackout with energy use limited to battery power in the cabin area. Food and supplies are being flown in by helicopter to the ship's 1,049 passengers and crew, who are reported uninjured.

The ship was being towed by a French fishing vessel, the coast guard said.
