A CORUNA, Spain, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A man was arrested in A Coruna, Spain, after he threw acid onto the faces of three children and their mother waiting at a bus stop, officials said.

Police said two of the children were treated at a hospital for burns on their faces and necks then released, but the third child was hospitalized with second-degree burns to his face and eyes, ThinkSpain reported. The woman sustained acid burns to her airway in the attack Monday and was hospitalized as a precaution.

Police said the suspect didn't say a word to the victims before he threw the acid on them as they were waiting for a bus. The man fled, but was arrested several minutes later not far from the scene.

Experts were analyzing the type of acid used, police said.

Police told ThinkSpain they don't know what provoked the attack.
