Clashes, gunfire erupt at Pakistan polls

KARACHI, Pakistan, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Clashes and gunfire at polling places in Pakistan Saturday injured 17 people, including police personnel, local media reported.

Voters were casting ballots in by-elections for six vacant National Assembly seats and four seats on provincial assemblies, Dawn News reported.

Irregularities at polling places also were reported.

Voters cast ballots at 980 polling stations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Unofficial results reported by Geo News show Pakistan People's Party candidate Natasha Daultana won a Vahari seat; Malik Rasheed Ahmed, an independent candidate, won a Qasoor seat; and Hasnain Mirza won the provincial assembly's Badin seat.
