Violence erupts at Temple Mount

Feb. 24, 2012 at 10:51 AM

JERUSALEM, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Violence broke out at Temple Mount in Jerusalem Friday, with security forces called in to disperse hundreds of Muslim rioters, officials said.

Police managed to disperse the crowd using stun grenades, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said protesters were reacting to reports a group of Jewish activists, determined to destroy the Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock and build the Third Temple on the site, were to gather at Temple Mount Friday.

Several police officers were injured in the clash by stones thrown at them.

Police Monday raided an apartment in Jerusalem where they found extremist right-wing documents related to the Temple Mount. One activist was arrested.
